Physical Therapy: A Solution to the Rise of Opioid Addiction

It’s no question that opioid addiction is on the rise in the United States. Both major and local news sources have been reporting on the effects of opioid addiction.


Opioids are drugs like oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine and the illegal opioid, heroin. These drugs interact with receptors on nerve cells in the body and brain. Painkillers become extremely addictive due to the sensation of euphoria they give the user.


All of these drugs are intended to relieve pain, but are commonly abused. Both prescription and illegal drug abuse have increased over 400 percent in the last six years!
